Awesome Nigerians .... in Art


All around the globe people are singing the praises of Nigerian painter, Olumide Oresegun. The hyper-realism created in his oil paintings makes his work seem so life like that it is hard to believe they aren't.

The 35-year-old majored in Fine Art at the Yaba College of Technology , Lagos, graduating with a distinction. Drawing inspiration from his community, he is creating pieces that reflect the lives of those around him. Here is a sample of his work....

 

Nigerian artist Laolu Senbanjo has been hired by Nike to create Air Max inspired art in New York. The American sportswear company has selected him as a Master of Air which will see him create art-inspired Air Max at the Air Max Con 2016.

Born and raised in Ilorin, Nigeria, Laolu trained as a lawyer but decided to make a change and become a full-time artist after several years of spending all his free time and money creating art and music. His art is called, Afromysterics, a term he coined in 2007, which means, the mystery of the African thought pattern. His preferred medium is charcoal. His work is heavily influenced by his Yoruba heritage, and is often related to the environment he finds himself in. Feminism, women and children are often present and common themes in his work, because of his year working as a Human Rights Lawyer.

 

The pencil drawings of UK-based Nigerian immigrant, Kelvin Okafor are amazing art critics. His drawings, which are often mistaken for photographs, have earned him national awards. His work has exhibited at galleries all over the UK.

The 27-year-old, whose genre of art is called "photo-realism", is a graduate of Middlesex University's Fine Art program.
