Awesome Nigerians ..... in Music

Sade was born Helen Folasade Adu in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria to a Nigerian father and a British mother. After her parents seperated, she was raised in the UK by her mother. She went on to become one of the most successful solo British female artist in history.

 

Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel is better known by his stage name, Seal. He was born in England to a Nigerian mother and a Brazilian father.

He has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is known for his international hits, including "Kiss from a Rose", which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1995 film Batman Forever

 

Nigerian-born Tunde Baiyewu formed Lighthouse Family with Paul Tucker in 1993 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. The duo met while studying at university. Their 1995 debut album Ocean Drive sold more than 1.8 million copies in the UK alone and established them as a popular easy listening duo throughout Europe.

 

Omo Bello was in university studying cell biology and genetics in Nigeria when she was awarded a scholarship in 2006 to train as an opera singer in France.

Five years later she graduated at the top of her class from from the prestigious National Conservatory for Music and Dance (Conservatoire de Paris – CNSMDP).

In 2014, she was nominated for the “Victoires de la musique classique” awards in the "Lyrical Revelation of the Year" category (the “French Grammy’s”). In 2010, she was the 1st prize winner of the Luciano Pavarotti Singing Competition.

She also won the 1st prize in the 2011 Anselmo Colzani international singing competition. She became a laureate of the Cziffra Foundation in 2011.

 

Home-grown talent, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D'banj, has won several music awards, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards, Evolution award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music awards.

His 2012 summer hit "Oliver Twist", was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012, reaching No. 2 on the UK R&B chart.

 

Chi-chi Nwanoku is the founder of Chineke!, Europe's first professional black orchestra. She was born in London of Nigerian and Irish parents, and is the oldest of five children. She spent two years of her early childhood living in her much loved fatherland, Imo State, Nigeria.
